At our surf camp on Carenero Island, we don’t just teach you how to surf — we guide you to the best surf spots in Bocas, chosen daily based on ocean conditions and the group’s level. Here are the waves we surf together:
🏄♂️ Black Rock – Perfect for Learning and Progressing
Level: Beginner to intermediate
Wave type: Lefts and rights, mellow reef break
Access: Short boat ride from Carenero
Black Rock is one of the most consistent and beginner-friendly waves in Bocas. That’s why we run the majority of our lessons and progression sessions here and the surf spots around this amazing wave. The wave breaks over reef, but it’s relatively deep and safe, which makes it ideal for improving your skills in a beautiful and relaxed tropical setting.
🌴 Paunch – For Surfers Looking for a Challenge
Level: Intermediate to advanced
Wave type: Powerful left-hand reef break
Access: Land transfer from Isla Colón
When conditions are right, we take more experienced surfers to Paunch — a strong wave with great shape and walls for maneuvers. It's ideal for working on speed, turns, and wave reading. The vibe here is more intense but super rewarding.
⚡ Bluff Beach – The Raw Power of the Caribbean
Level: Advanced
Wave type: Heavy beach break with strong currents
Access: Land transfer from Isla Colón
Although we don’t surf here regularly due to safety reasons, we sometimes organize trips to watch the action and take photos. Bluff is wild and powerful — the kind of wave that reminds you of nature’s raw energy. Perfect for watching locals charge or soaking in the atmosphere.

🚤 Silverbacks – For Experts Only
Level: Advanced / Pro
Wave type: Big, hollow right-hand slab
Access: Boat trip from Isla Colón
Silverbacks is a legendary wave in Panama. It’s rare and powerful, and only breaks under specific swell conditions. On special occasions, we organize boat trips to surf or observe it (if the group is experienced enough). It's a once-in-a-lifetime kind of wave.
